She fell asleep in the car and woke up  in my driveway. It took her a while to warm up.  She soon came to realize I was no threat and was crawling into my lap by the end of the session.

Walking is tough work.  Look at her concentration face. ♥

]]> http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/baby-f-is-one/feed/ 0 Frederick County Children’s Festival http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/frederick-county-childrens-festival-43011/ http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/frederick-county-childrens-festival-43011/#comments Thu, 05 May 2011 00:12:37 +0000 Amy Masser http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/?p=6121 I took my daughter with me Saturday afternoon to shoot Frederick’s Annual Children’s Festival.  If you have never been it is a great place for parents to find out about everything Frederick has to offer for our little ones, tons of crafts and activities and it’s FREE.  If you are a child it’s a great place to play outside, get lots of attention and make some cool stuff.  My daughter Katie is 15 years old and has Down’s Syndrome.  She attended the festival with me last year and participated in a few of the activities.  She has always shown an interest in photography.  I have always nervously handed her my camera and pointed to the button she needed to push.  Recently she has been critiquing her own work and realizing that she didn’t like what she saw and tried again until she was pleased with it.  Her composition has actually been getting pretty good.  When I asked if she wanted to be my second shooter at this year’s festival she was so excited.  I packed her her own gear bag, set my old Nikon d90 to program mode and gave her no other instructions.  She walked around with me for a little while, but then went over to the stage to cover the dancers.  She was sitting in the audience with people in front of her and I expected to see the backs of peoples heads in the shots.  Not even one.   I was blown away with some of her shots.  Her images are at the bottom of the post in their own slide show.

Ok.  This is what my kitchen looked like at 9:30 this morning. undefinedundefined And this is what it looked like at 11:00.  He taped off and covered everything except the counter tops.

undefined At about 11:15 he started spraying the base coat.  He let that dry then did the flecked granite coat.  Those two coats dried quickly and were not too fumey smelling.  By around 1:30 he started the glossy clear coat.   This is what really makes it look like granite.

undefinedundefined By 3:30 he had the tape off and the counters were dry to touch.  He said I could put my things back on them tomorrow morning! I can’t believe how great this looks.  Feel free to have a look when you come to the studio.

]]> http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/prom-pictures-and-new-counter-tops-42911/feed/ 0 Raggedy Ann Newborn Prop http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/raggedy-ann-newborn-prop-4811/ http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/raggedy-ann-newborn-prop-4811/#comments Fri, 08 Apr 2011 14:37:26 +0000 Amy Masser http://babyfacephoto.info/blog/?p=5639 I am frequently inspired by memories of my childhood.  I remember my mother, (who now designs/owns her own furniture line and store Pure Home in Eveready Square in downtown Frederick, formerly Ann Marie’s Interior Details)  was always sewing bedding or drapes, crocheting afghans (it was the 70′s),  painting, refinishing or somehow creating  something.  She stayed home with us and utilized her creativity to save money.  Not to mention what ever she did always turned out better than anything we could buy.  Turns out you really do somewhat turn into you mother.  I am my mom minus the neurotic cleaning thing.  My sister is mom minus the always having to be creating thing.  Not sure which one is better.  I wish I was both.

Mom was really into Raggedy Ann for me.  Maybe I reminded her of the character, I don’t recall my sister having anything Raggedy Ann.  I had a night light,  music box (still have it…it’s in the studio) and when I was 8 she made me a really big Raggedy Ann doll for my birthday.  I could have cared less about Raggedy Ann.  I remember mom sitting on the deck embroidering her face.  I wanted her to do something else.  She said she would when she was finished, she was almost done.  How many times have I said those words to my children?  True to form, I said “I don’t even like Raggedy Ann, don’t bother”.  My mom said “I know you don’t care about this now, but one day you will look back and remember me making this for you, and you will love it.”  Now that I posses the all knowing mommy power, I don’t really mind the fact that mothers are always right.  She actually was pretty cool, mom even embroidered “I love Amy” in her heart.

A few years later I got a baby brother who loved my Raggedy Ann doll.  He was so cute I let him play with whatever he wanted, not realizing what his drool would do to her face. She became stained and worn.  I know I didn’t throw her out, but I no longer have her.  I bet the neurotically clean side of mom is responsible.

Yesterday I decided I must have a tiny Raggedy Ann doll for my newborns to hold.  Lucky for me, I too can make just about anything.  In the true spirit of Raggedy Ann, I found a few scraps of fabric and yarn and a couple of hours later, voila…

So Mom, if you read this.  I would love for you to make me another Raggedy Ann doll.  4 months til my birthday.  Of course one of your funky chairs would be cool too.  Love you!
